For a bit of festive fun we have decided to do another 'day in the life' style video but with a Christmas theme! Everyone was so positive and encouraging about our last video (if you haven't seen Oriana's other video, click here to go to that post!) and I really appreciate people using it as a tool to talk about difference and inclusion with your children.
Today's video is a quick 7 minutes, so please take a watch and share with your friends and family to help them see what life with Down Syndrome is really like!
Christmas is often celebrated as a time for giving, but generosity can extend beyond gifts or money. We can be generous with our time and friendship, If you are watching this with children, maybe encourage them to be generous with their time and friendship at school - making a special effort with someone who doesn't often get the chance to be included, or giving extra smiles to someone who can feel a little lonely, and talking about inclusion and not leaving people out because of their differences.
You could also talk with your children about things they notice in the video which Oriana has in common with them and their friends, and things which might be different due to Down Syndrome. I have put a table underneath the video link with some example ideas already for you....
Note:
- I actually managed to do this filming over one day instead of several (unlike last time!)
- Stefan is not in The Dressing Gown (also unlike last time)
Here is the table with some examples I have given. You could also add an additional column to talk about things that make your child unique too, and talk positively about differences and celebrating what makes us individual. You may find that there are more similarities than differences, and this is always important to remember - we all often have the same core needs: to be loved and included.
Happy Christmas everyone and thank you for your support!
